How the love calculator works
The calculator cleans up both names (lowercase, no accents, no punctuation or extra spaces), puts them in alphabetical order and turns them into a number with a hash function. That number becomes a score from 0 to 100. Because of this:
- The same two names always give the same percentage, so you can show your friends.
- “Anna + Ben” and “Ben + Anna” score the same.
- “José” and “Jose” score the same, but “Joe” and “Joseph” do not.

Is a love calculator accurate?
No, and that’s the point. Names are chosen by parents, not by fate, so no calculation based on letters can measure attraction or compatibility. Psychologists point to things like shared values, good communication and trust. Use the score as an icebreaker or a laugh, not as advice.
Classic name love games
- FLAMES: popular in India and the Philippines. Cross out the letters the two names share, count what is left and count through F-L-A-M-E-S (Friends, Lovers, Affection, Marriage, Enemies, Siblings).
- TRUE LOVE: count how often the letters of “TRUE” and “LOVE” appear in both names and put the two numbers side by side to get a percentage.
